Heavenly Oystercatcher
An American Oystercatcher pauses to demonstrate the narrowness of its bill. The light sand on the beaches of Long Island, NY provide for some fun composition opportunities. This shorebird had been foraging beyond the brim of a small hill with me crouched low on the other side. This foreground is unaltered in any way. It is simply the result of providing enough distance between my focus point (the Oystercatcher’s eye/forehead) and the sand combined with a wide open aperture, f/5.6. June 15, 2017
