White Stork Mythbusters

Most of us are familiar with European folklore that speaks of White storks delivering babies to the doorsteps of new parents. Although that story is purely myth, there are some interesting ties between these storks and birth. While in Ndutu I had heard from our guide that the Wildebeest and Zebra birthing typically coincides with the arrival of White storks during their northward migration back to Europe. To solidify this fact, on the day that I saw my first of these wading birds I also saw my first newborn Wildebeest not five minutes later. I did not, however, see a single stork carrying a bundle of white as it delivered a baby Wildebeest. February 2, 2017
