Photo of the Day – October 16, 2017

Memory Lane

Photographed three years ago tomorrow, October 17, 2014. I can hardly believe it has been that long. So new to photography I had only a limited understanding of exposure, composition or wildlife. I did know that in this area, Wood Ducks are very elusive and extremely difficult to photograph. They were also stunningly beautiful and I was determined to find a way to get better looks. I invested in a 500mm lens. And through the use of camouflage cloth as a makeshift blind and a LOT of patience, my mission was a success. This is still one of my favorite early shots from that exciting month before they flew south for the winter. Brick Pond in Owego, New York.
