World Shorebirds Day
My ambassador for World Shorebirds day is this tiny Piping plover, just days old. In June 2017 I had the thrill of seeing this one and its sibling running around the beach, followed closely by their parents. In this frame it had been running up the beach and the ethereal foreground blurring is caused by the sand and my wide open aperture. The Piping plover population is classified as near threatened by the IUCN. As our shorelines continue to shrink and our beaches grow more crowded, it is our shorebirds that are among the most heavily impacted. Please remember to share the beach with these lovely little birds that call it their home, carrying out what you carry in, respecting the boundary markers and giving them lots of space to hunt for food.
