Female Pileated Woodpecker: I went out trudging through knee deep snow today looking for ducks near the river. And I found the ducks but they were not very cooperative. While I was out there and feeling a little frustrated I heard the very distinct call of a Pileated Woodpecker. And then this female flew in very close to give me my best yet views of a Pileated Woodpecker. Another one of nature’s awesome surprises! The angle is a little harsh but I was still happy with the detail. January 2015
