Long Island Coastline – Part 1, Reconnaissance

My first visit to the Long Island coastline was to meet up with new friends, explore and look for shorebird babies. I found all that and much more. I made some great friends and we found two less than two day old Piping Plovers, a Clapper Rail, mating Black Skimmers and nesting Common and Least Terns. After a rainy start and equipment problems we thought the day would be a bust. But it ended up being one of my favorite adventures yet. Can’t wait to go back and apply what I learned from this visit.
