Danger Lurks
My parents have a small winter home in Punta Gorda, Florida, a location that was recently under threat from the wrath of hurricane Irma. They were not in Florida during the storm and I am also happy to report that its ferocity receded enough that Punta Gorda, and their home, was spared from the worst of it. My thoughts are with those that were not as lucky.
Whenever I return to Punta Gorda, I spend most of my time glued to the back porch watching the constant activity of the wading birds, raptors and songbirds along the small tree-lined creek. During the recent storm I feared the worst for my feathered friends and am very happy they still have a home as well. From my last visit in May, here is a mated pair of Yellow-crowned Night-Herons taking an interest in something unseen to me. May 18, 2017
